Hussam Hammo and Sohaib Thiab launched Tamatem a mobile gaming startup after they closed their former startup Wizard productions.
Before closing Wizards the team tried to pivot into mobile gaming but they did not have enough time before they ran out of money and could not bring further investment.
This time the new startup is backed by Silicon Valley based startup 500 with 50,000 USD in financial backing.
The startup already launched 2 days ago its first mobile game for android: Arabic Stars Quiz a simple identifying game in which players compete against their friends to correctly name the faces of famous celebrities, singers, and public figures from across the Arab world.
The iOS version of the game is coming up in few days after it gets approval in the apple app store.
Hussam told ArabCrunch “Tamatem is a mobile gaming studio and publisher entirely focused on serving the Arabic users with games tailored for the culture and language of the region.” He added
“Arabic is the 4th biggest language in the world, when we look at content, less than 1% of all content is available in Arabic.”
The founders has 5 years of experience in gaming through Wizards and before that, selling the first Arabic social network in the world Faiye3 to maktoob (Now Yahoo Maktoob.)
Tamatem is planning more games in coming days as Hussam says “we are taking a rapid approach in launching games.” One of the other new game will be 4 pictures 1 word it is Arabic content that you need to find 4 common things between the images.
